JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida men's cross country teams return to competition on Friday morning as the Ospreys compete in the NCAA South Regional in Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday at beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The meet will be broadcasted on ESPN3 with the women's 6K starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by the men's 10K at 9:30 a.m.
"We've had a very good year which began with a strong 10-week summer base," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "They are focused on getting better and are consistently working toward the goal of late-season success. The ASUN was a tough course and although it was a shorter course, it has us well prepared for the longer race on Friday."
The Osprey men, currently ranked sixth in the USTFCCCA South Region poll, placed seven runners in the top 20, including five in the top 10 to win the conference title. Noah Perkins led UNF with a runner-up finish while Nathan Jubran and Rob Leverone placed third and fourth, respectively. Nick Morken finished sixth and Christian Conder wrapped up the top 10 with a 10th place finish.
"Nick Morken has had such a fantastic career, always leading this group. He is talented and focused and really invested in the overall team success. Noah has continued to up his game, handling more volume and becoming accustomed to faster paces. I know he is looking forward to a great 10K race. Nathan has been such a great addition to our front running group. He prepared well and has enjoyed having a group to race with. I know he will run hard and smart and should finish very well in his 10K debut. Rob has worked hard and is hungry to once again see the yields of his work payoff in the race while Christian continues to improve and be consistent this season." – head coach Jeff Pigg

The women's team will look to continue their strong season after placing third at the ASUN Championship. Grade Gumpel led the Ospreys with a 10th place finish, followed by Lydia van Dijk with a 15th place finish. Senior Audrey Carpenter has paced the women's team this season with three top 20 finishes as she notched a 17th place finish at the ASUN Championship.

"I think our best meet lies ahead at the south region meet. Things are coming together nicely for this young team, and we have developed a great culture with the freshmen settling into good routines. They work hard and really support one another. While this may be our last race of the 2018 season, we have really established the platform for many good seasons to come. Senior Audrey Carpenter has a great base and is getting over a couple weeks of sickness, and it will be fun to see her back to full strength at the meet. I know she has her best race of her career in front of her. Freshman Grace Gumpel has been consistent this year and was our top runner at the ASUN Championship. She will feed off that success and run well. Freshman Lydia van Dijk has been very consistent and is ready to perform at a high level while Camryn Cooney has prepared well all season and looks to be making a late-season move to drop better performances at the regional meet." – head coach Jeff Pigg
