THE FAST START
The North Florida Track & Field teams wrapped up their season-opening trip with several more event titles at the Samford Open on Saturday.Â
Â
AROUND THE TRACK
- Claudia Jalon bettered her PR by 13 seconds en route to winning the 3000m in a time of 9:43 | It marked her second event title of the weekend having won the Mile OD on Friday
- Eden Meyer also picked up her second title of the season, leading the field in the Mile with a PR of 4:59
- Tyler Stahl earned the gold in the 3000m, running a time of 8:26
- Noah Perkins followed up his event title on Friday (3,000m) by claiming runner-up honors in the Mile with a PR of 4:15
Â
ON THE FIELD
- Louisa Washburn matched her PR in the pole vault for a second straight day, posting a 3.65m (11-11.75)
- Bobby Harris earned a third-place showing in the high jump following a mark of 2.10m (6-10.75)
THOUGHTS FROM THE TOP...
"We had a very good trip. We raced teams we don't compete against very often at a beautiful facility. The teams ran well and it was an excellent all-around meet weekend for the team.".
Women's Highlights
"Claudia again ran very well. She was strong and had very good speed in the finish. Eden looked very comfortable leading most of the race and pushing herself to a sub 5-minute mile. It is good for her speed to run some shorter races and that was a nice race for her. Louisa proved that her PR yesterday was no fluke by jumping the same height today. She is a tough competitor and handled the meet like a champ."
Men's Highlights
"Tyler looked very strong today. He managed the race very well to come away with the win. Noah looked very good especially considering it is so early in the season and having only been running mileage. He had a nose bleed as he headed to the line so he grabbed a tissue and raced with it in his nose. I know it sounds funny but he handled the situation very well. Bobby had a very solid day. He is right on schedule for another great year." -- Head coach Jeff Pigg

North Florida next competes on Feb. 2-3 at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
