GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The North Florida cross country teams return to competition Saturday morning against the competitive field in the Mt. Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. Â
Both teams look to build upon solid debut performances in the season-opening UNF XC Invitational two weeks ago. On the men's side, UNF boasted the top four finishers led by sophomore Noah Perkins, junior Fynn Timm and senior Nick Morken, who all posted 5k PR times. Senior Eden Meyer paced the women's group, winning the individual title by a 28-second margin. The opening event featured a dual meet scoring format with the Osprey men topping both Florida and Jacksonville, while the women defeated JU but were slightly edged by the Gators.
The men's team, currently ranked 9th in the USTFCCCA South Region poll, gets things started at 7:55 a.m. in the squad's first 8k race of the year with the No. 14 ranked Osprey women's squad running in the 5k race set to start at 8:30 a.m. Â
Thoughts from Coach Pigg...
"It's always fun to go to UF for the cross country meet. You can usually count on a good number and a wide variety of teams. This year's field of 32 teams looks to be another competitive group. Obviously, the Gators provide great competition as well as many others teams from around the Southeast. After two weeks of good training, we are excited to get back at it. This week we will have both Claudia Jalon and Eden Meyer in the lineup for the women and Tyler Stahl will be racing for the men. We are almost up to full strength on both sides."Â
