SHORT STORY: The Ospreys are looking for their first win against crosstown rival, Jacksonville, for the first time since 2007. This game will be the second of the annual River City Rumble competition.
RIVER CITY RUMBLE HISTORY
The River City Rumble is a season-long series between Jacksonville's two Division I institutions - Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida - that was founded in fall 2005. It was officially named and announced on Jan. 23, 2006, at a press conference on the UNF campus. The University of North Florida and Jacksonville University battle annually for the "Old Wooden Barrel," which is awarded to the school with the most victories in head-to-head competition over the other during a school year. Jacksonville and North Florida both field teams in 14 sports (men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, beach volleyball, women's indoor and outdoor track, and men's and women's golf).
SERIES NOTEÂ
North Florida has not beaten Jacksonville since Oct. 31, 2007 with the Dolphins owning an 8-0-2 mark in the last 10 meetings. Last season, JU took a 1-0 decision with the 'Phins' Maya Fisher scoring the game's only goal off a penalty kick in the 74th minute of play.
SWITCH IT UP
Sophomore Kelli Crowley was tabbed to train for the second goalkeeper spot, but due to injuries and roster changes, she quickly turned around to become a field player.
The switch paid off as she scored the game-winning goal against the Citadel on Sunday with a perfect header to the upper 90 that was named the ASUN Goal of the Week.
UNFRIENDLY GROUND
Jacksonville University's field has not been kind to the Ospreys as they own just a 1-6-1 record across town.
THAT'S A ZERO
With the shutout against the Citadel on Sunday, UNF owns four blank sheets. The UNF Division I record for shut outs in a season is nine.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
Seven different Ospreys have now recorded a goal this season. Sophomore Lorena Cedeno recorded her first-ever collegiate goal for the win against FIU on 9/1, while Thais Reiss scored her second game-winning goal against LIU on 9/3.
