1500m Sweep Tops Men's Track & Field Performances at USC Open

The Short Story:Â The North Florida Track & Field team posted a sweep of the 1500m while also collecting several other strong performances on Saturday at the USC Open.

THE FINISH LINE
- A trio of Ospreys finished in the Top 6 of the 1500m lead by by the duo of Noah Perkins (3:56) and Sem Sultanov (3:57) in first and second, respectively. Sultanov clocked a career best time in the race while fellow rookie Rob Leverone was 6th in a time of 4:11.
- Junior Rayford James ran a 1:53 to finish 3rd in the 800m with senior teammate Cristian Acuna finishing fourth with a 1:54. Constantine Stathis also finished in the Top 10 earning a 9th-place showing with his time of 1:57
- Senior Desmond Robb competed in both the 200m (22.52) and 400m (48.97) earning finishes of 21st and 10th, respectively
- Freshman George Escobar narrowly missed a PR in the 400m with a time of 49.27

- Senior Shelton McLean tallied a mark of 4.65m (15-03.00) to finish fourth in the pole vault competition

"It was nice to have our freshmen sweep the top two spots in the 1500m. We also got some good runs from the guys in the 800m. We are continuing to work and build towards the conference championship in about a month." -- Head coach Jeff Pigg

North Florida will take spring semester exams this week before returning to action next Friday (Apr. 28) at the Tom Jones Memorial meet in Gainesville, Fla.
