Second Half Push Gives Lipscomb Win Over UNF

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - North Florida women's basketball allowed Lipscomb to chip away at a 10-point halftime lead as the Bisons closed out the game with a 66-62 win on Monday evening.

- Simone Brown recorded a double-double with a team-best 17 points and 11 rebounds.
- Sierra Shepherd and Claire Ioannidis both scored in double figures with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
- Tesh Hanson was held to just one point, but helped the Ospreys outrebound Lipscomb with her eight boards.Â
- Alex Banks led Lipscomb with 21 points, while Loren Cagle narrowly missed a triple double with nine rebounds, eight points and six assists.
First Half Trends
- North Florida led from the start as Brown hit an opening triple to start an 8-2 run.
- By the media timeout, the Bisons closed the gap to 12-8 before UNF held a 16-10 lead after one.
- In the second, North Florida pushed its lead to 29-19 thanks to another try from Brown.
- Before the half, the visitors grabbed their biggest lead of the game, 37-25, on a three-pointer from Shepherd, but a final Lipscomb basket made it a 37-27 at the half.
- The Ospreys hit six treys in the first half which is two more than they made in the first meeting against the Bisons.
- North Florida kept its distance early in the third quarter before coming up empty on three possessions as the Bisons capitalized on their options to knot the game at 47-all with 1:47 left in the quarter.
- Hanson hit her lone point of the game to give UNF a 48-47 lead after three.
- Lipscomb outscored the Ospreys 19-14 in the final frame to get the win.
- The Bisons used a 9-3 run to start the final quarter to take a 58-51 lead where it stayed for the remainder of the game.
- UNF closed the home team's advantage to two, twice in the final minute. The first time on a jumper from Brown and the second on a bucket from Ioannidis.
- The home team went 4-for-4 from the line down the stretch and the last second triple to win the game missed the basket as Lipscomb won.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- North Florida pulled down 39 boards to the Bisons 32.
- Lipscomb stayed out of foul trouble as North Florida went to the line just six times, hitting three of those chances. In comparison, the Bisons hit 10-of-14 from the line.
- The Ospreys committed 20 turnovers leading to 17 points for the Bisons.Â
- UNF shot 42 percent from the field and hit six three-pointers in the opening half, but converted just one in the second.Â
- It was just the fourth time this season when leading at the half that the Ospreys lost the game. All of those happened in conference play.
