Team Effort Lifts North Florida Past NJIT

JACKSONVILLEÂ - North Florida women's basketball dished out 16 assists on 20 baskets en route to its second straight ASUN win as the Ospreys downed NJIT, 61-51 on Monday evening at UNF Arena.

- This win avenges the earlier season loss to the Highlanders in Newark.
- Hanson tallied a game-high 18 points with eight rebounds and two assists. She hot 7-for-8 from the floor and went 3-for-4 from the line.
- Ioannidis hit double figures for the third straight game with 13 points and four assists.
- Despite having just two points, Jaiveonna Norris was effective in the paint as she recorded four blocks on defense, while also dishing out a career-high five helpers.
- Leah Horton led the way for NJIT with 14 points and six rebounds.

- It was a slow start to the game as it was 5-3 NJITÂ at the media timeout.
- The visitors took a 9-3 lead before UNF closed the gap to 9-7 on a Hanson bucket.Â
- NJITÂ closed out the quarter, leading 12-7.
- North Florida came out of the quick break ready to fire as Hanson started a 17-7 run capped by an Ioannidis three.
- The Ospreys then stayed out in front for the remainder of the quarter as they took a 28-24 lead into halftime.
- UNF outscored the Highlanders, 21-12, in the second quarter.
- Three straight triples from North Florida followed by three layups gave the Ospreys their biggest lead of the game, 43-28, with 5:07 to play in the third.
- NJITÂ shrank the lead to nine with back-to-back treys, but the team came up empty on its next four possessions.
- After a turnover from the visitors and six seconds left in the frame, Ioannidis took the inbound pass from the back court and drove to the other side where she hit a mid-range jumper to push the Ospreys' lead back to double figures ta 45-34.
- From there, UNF kept its double figure lead for majority of the final quarter.Â
- NJIT got to within nine two times, but the North Florida lead was enough to give the hosts its second straight win.
