CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- The North Florida cross country teams will toe the start line for the ASUN Championship on Saturday morning at Sam Smith Park. The men's 8k championship begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5k race at 9:30 a.m.
The Osprey men, currently ranked 9th in the USTFCCCA South Region poll, are the defending ASUN Champions. UNF dominated the field last year boasting four the the top five finishers led by ASUN Runner of the Year, Nick Morken. The team has enjoyed a strong campaign this year owning a pair of event titles and looking to build on a seventh-place finish at the competitive Alabama Crimson Classic just two weeks ago.
The UNF women's team, who is ranked 13th in the latest USTFCCA South Region poll, hopes to build on their third place finish a year ago in the ASUNÂ Championship. Eden Meyer led the way last year for the Ospreys, setting a course record en route to claiming ASUNÂ Runner of the Year honors and the individual race championship. Meyer has continued her strong running, finishing first twice this fall before earning a runner-up finish at Alabama in the last meet.
Thoughts from Coach Pigg:
"It has been a great fall season. The team came in from the summer training ready to go and we have made very good progress throughout the year. This is a special group of kids who have worked hard and who trust the process. It is time to cash in."Â
