JACKSONVILLE -- North Florida standout men's high jumper Bobby Harris capped his record-setting sophomore season Saturday finishing tied for 16th in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary held at UNF's Hodges Stadium.
Harris, the Atlantic Sun Conference champion in the high jump and UNF school record holder, narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA Championships after posting a mark of 6-11.75 (2.13m). The advancing mark was 2.17m, which Harris had topped several times this season and just brushed the bar on his final attempt during the East Prelim.
"Bobby has had a tremendous season and we are extremely proud of him," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "When we signed him our hopes were that he would clear 7-feet and qualify for the NCAA Regional by the end of his career. Bobby has already exceeded those goals and looks to achieve even higher accomplishments. The best thing about him is that he's a hard worker in all aspects of his life both and and off the track. This is another example of the type of championship caliber culture that Coach Greg Krupa is building with our jump squad. The future is bright and we are looking forward to great things."
The North Florida track and field teams concluded another outstanding season highlighted by four student-athletes earning NCAA East Preliminary qualifications.
Day 3 Notes:
*Nikki Okwelogu of Harvard broke the Hodges Stadium record for the women's shot put with a throw of 17.91m (58-09.25)
*Georgia's Keturah Orji set an NCAA Collegiate and Hodges Stadium record in the triple jump with a mark of 14.29m (46-10.75)
*Tennessee women's 4x400m Relay set new Hodges Stadium record with a time of 3:28.32 (L. Dyer/ F. Majors/ L. White/ F. Brown)
