JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's tennis competes in its final regular season match at Stetson on Saturday at 4 p.m. with the winner claiming the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Atlantic Sun Championship.
With Stetson's loss to FGCU, the Hatters stand at 4-1 in A-Sun play, while UNF is currently 3-2 and with a win in DeLand, could secure the No. 2 seed.Â
Sophomore Lasse Muscheites continues to pace the Ospreys with an 8-0 mark in the No. 2 position which includes a 5-0 record in conference plat. He has a team-best 12 dual victories and has recently made adjustments in his doubles play with partner Zach Goldberg with an injury. Muscheites and freshman Andrey Alawi are now playing in the No. 3 slot and own a 2-1 record. Freshman Sahil Deshmukh also is undefeated in league action in the No. 4 and 5 spots. In doubles play, Julian Bradley and Jack Findel-Hawkins are 3-0 in conference action at the No. 1 and No. 2 courts.Â
Before FGCU, the Hatters were on a five-match winning streak with their last loss coming against UAB on March 19. Loic Blanco leads the team in the No. 1 spot with an 11-6 mark, while Graham Ball holds the same mark overall including a 9-4 record in the No. 4 spot. Ball is also undefeated in league action. Stetson has struggled in doubles play as it owns a .417 winning percentage. Simon Julin and Coilin MacNamara lead the duos with eight dual match wins, but only have a 1-4 mark in conference action.Â
The Ospreys have history on their side as UNF has grabbed the win in the last five meetings between the two teams including a 5-2 win the last time the teams met on Stetson's home court.Â
If UNF wins the match, the Ospreys earn a bye in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament and would start play on Saturday, April 23 in Spartanburg, S.C.
