JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida track and field program will have athletes participating in a pair of competitive meets this weekend as Ospreys are scheduled to be at the Mt. SAC Relays (Norwalk, Calif.) and the Seminole Invitational (Tallahassee, Fla.).
A handful of runners will race at the prestigious Mt. SAC event led by sophomore Nick Morken (1,500m) and Fynn Timm (3,000m Steeplechase), who are both coming off school record setting performances. Sophomore Tyler Stahl joins Morken in the 1,500m while junior Brad Hort and sophomore Eden Meyer will compete in the men's and women's 10,000m races, respectively. Competition begins late Thursday night.
"Coming off one of the best performances in UNF track history, Nick Morken looks to race some of the top milers in the U.S.," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "Eden Meyer will be running her first 10k of the year with hopes of putting up another strong number like she did at last year's Mt. SAC. Fynn Timm is running the steeplechase with hopes of getting another quality race in prior to East Regionals. Following his 3:50 mark at Florida Relays, Tyler Stahl looks to post another solid 1,500m time while Brad Hort debuts in 10k looking to prepare him to make a run at the Atlantic Sun Championship, after finishing runner-up at last years event."
The remainder of the UNF squad will compete Friday and Saturday in the Seminole Invitational hosted by Florida State. In addition to having athletes in a variety of running events, the Ospreys are also expected to have field participants in the high jump and pole vault. Competition begins at 12 noon on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday at Mike Long Track Stadium.
"FSU will be a great opportunity for our teams if the rain stays away and the winds are not too strong," added Pigg. "Practice has been going well and we are anxious to get back to competition."
