Deshmukh Heads to Championship at Dick Vitale Classic

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. - Sophomore Sahil Deshmukh powered through the consolation quarterfinals and then took down an ASUN foe from FGCU to advance to the consolation championship at the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic on Saturday.
Deshmukh now moves on to take on Davey Roberts of Princeton in the championship match.Â
In his quarterfinal match, Deshmukh battled in the opening frame to a 7-6 (6) victory against Stephen Madonia of Florida. Madonia then got the next win, 6-4, but Deshmukh bounced back and shut the Gator down with a 10-1 victory in the tiebreaker set. Deshmukh did not let the long match hinder him in the semis. He kept up the strong play against FGCU's Javier Fernandez to take a 7-6 (3), 6-4 win to advance.
