CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The North Florida women's soccer team fell 5-1 to Miami in non-conference action this Sunday in Coral Gables.
Â
The Ospreys (1-6-0) now turn their attention to returning home and their last two non-conference matches of the season.
Â
"We are obviously disappointed with the result. The first goal was a PK which they happen. To give up a goal right after is completely unacceptable," said coach Robin Confer. "To give up another goal on a set piece where we mentally shut down can't happen."
Â
The Hurricanes (3-4-0) opened up the match with a goal in the 16th minute, where Amy Schmidt scored on a penalty kick goal.
Â
Soon after Miami pushed it to 2-0 in the 17th minute where Gracie Lachowecki was able to beat the keeper in the box for the score.
Â
The Hurricanes then followed up in the 30th minute with a goal by Grace Rapp, who went unassisted into the box and beat the keeper.
Â
Miami scored again in the 68th minute, when Jasmine Paterson found the net off of a cross.
Â
The Ospreys rebounded with a goal in the 68th minute Senior Lanie Keating got a penalty kick opportunity and found the left side of the net on a low kick, breaking the Ospreys scoreless streak that spanned from the first match of the season.
Â
Miami pushed the lead up to the eventual final of 5-1 in the 71st minute, when Grace Rapp found the net on a hard shot that went in off a rebound from a Victoria Ekeli save.
Â
The Ospreys almost got their second goal of the match in the 85th minute where sophomore Caitlin Kader found junior Gabrielle Ligouri on a corner kick, but Ligouri's diving header went just wide right.
Â
"I told our team today that the difference would be winning individual battles and we didn't do that today," added Confer.
Â
The Ospreys return home next weekend for matches against Furman on Friday and Georgia Southern on Sunday at Hodges Stadium.Â
