9/11/2015 10:35:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MIAMI, Fla. – The North Florida Women's Soccer team fell 2-0 to the FIU Panthers on Friday night in Miami.
Â
The Ospreys (1-5-0) were locked in a stalemate with the Panthers (3-3-0) up until the 82nd minute. FIU added the second goal in the 86th minute for the eventual 2-0 final.
Â
"Once again I thought we defended well, we just need to close out games," said coach Robin Confer. "We need to generate more chances in our attack and that is something we are continuing to try to work on. We have to do a better of job of coming out with energy and attacking." We generated some of our best chances after we gave up the goal. We now have to turn our focus on Miami who picked up a big win tonight against Florida Gulf Coast.
Â
The Ospreys created some good chances throughout the match but were unable to find the net.
Â
In the third minute, junior Alexis Bredeau was able to get a shot on target but it was ultimately saved by the Panther keeper.
Â
In the 76th minute, freshman Haley Koncir took a good crack at the ball but the shot sailed high.
Â
The first goal of the match came in off Ellen Crist, who found the upper-right corner of the net following a cross into the box in the far side.
Â
The Panthers then pushed the lead to 2-0 from another Crist goal, this time coming off of a deflection of an Osprey defender.
Â
For the Ospreys, Bredeau and junior Sonia O'Neill each notched a shot on goal. On the defensive front, Goalkeepers Susie Ford and Victoria Ekeli both tallied four saves.
Â
"We generated some of our best chances after we gave up the goal," added Confer. "We now have to turn our focus on Miami who picked up a big win tonight against Florida Gulf Coast."
Â
The Ospreys next play at Miami this Sunday at 1 p.m., the match can be viewed on ESPN3 or the WatchESPN app.
