@OspreyWSOC Takes Season Opener 4-0 over Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The North Florida Women's Soccer team started off their 2015 season with a 4-0 win over Francis Marion Friday in Florence, S.C.
Â
"It was great to start the season off with a win and score some goals. I think we could've been a little better in possession, but we continue to create some good chances," said head coach Robin Confer.
Â
The Ospreys (1-0) took just 52 seconds to score their first goal of the season, when freshman Krista Colubiale took a long pass from sophomore Sarah Wasser into the box and beat the keeper to bury her first career goal.
Â
Later in the 28th minute, senior Ashley Carmean sent a cross towards the box, deflecting off of a Francis Marion defender and over the goalkeeper's head for an own goal and a 2-0 Osprey lead.
Â
Moments later in the 30th minute, junior Alexis Bredeau drilled a 20-yard shot from just outside the box to push the margin to a 3-0 Osprey lead into the half.
Â
In the 67th minute, sophomore Kayla Gray dribbled the ball into the box before a quick cross to senior Amanda Fischler, who tapped the ball in from four yards out to make the lead the eventual final of 4-0.
Â
The Osprey defense held strong throughout the match, with Francis Marion only able to muster one shot, juniors Susie Ford and Victoria Ekeli combined for the shutout.
Â
"We now turn our focus to FAU who are a great team and will be very organized," added Confer. "We were able to rotate a lot of players today which will hopefully help us on Sunday.
Â
The Ospreys are back in action for their home opener this Sunday at 1 p.m., when they host FAU at Hodges Stadium.
