Sweep Success: After a three-game sweep at USC Upstate this past weekend, the Ospreys were clinched the Atlantic Sun regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming A-Sun Conference tournament. The Ospreys outscored the Spartans, 28-10 in the series and racked up 38 hits in three games. The Ospreys have swept three A-Sun opponents this season and a total of five opponents.
A-Sun Championship: North Florida's 14-4 record in A-Sun play was good enough to clinch its first ever Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season Championship. All six teams have qualified for next week's tournament and the remaining five seeds are still up for grabs. The conference title is the first since the 2005 Peach Belt Conference Championship.
No Place Like the Road: The Ospreys wrapped up its regular season road schedule this past weekend after a season-long nine-game stint away from Harmon Stadium. The Ospreys end the season with 15 road wins the most since their inaugural year in Division I (2006).
Sigh of Relief: Two of the Ospreys three wins against USC Upstate were credited to relievers
Matthew Naylor and Tyler Dupont. Naylor won his team-best 7
th game and is the sixth pitcher in the D-1 era to have seven or more wins in a season. DuPont tossed 5.1 innings of relief, allowed one run and struck out three for his sixth win of 2015.
Spread the Wealth: Amidst all the offense this weekend in Spartanburg,
Patrick Ervin broke the school's single season assist record on Sunday against USC Upstate. He topped double play partner,
Kyle Brooks' mark of 196 set in 2014. He now has 198 assists in this year with four regular season games yet to play.
Moore Wins: Tuesday night's starting pitcher,
Tyler Moore, is seeking his 16
th career win tonight which would tie him for the most by a North Florida pitcher in the school's D-1 era. John Atteo (2007-10) finished his career with a 16-9 record and is the current record holder.
Coaches Speak: The Ospreys have been receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Poll for the last five weeks. Monday the Osprey garnered 14 votes in the USA Today National Coaches poll, the fifth most of any team outside the Top 25.
Two Years, Two Hit Records?: Outfielder
Donnie Dewees is just one hit shy of tying the program's single season record for hits (95). Last year, former teammate
Drew Weeks broke the school record of 93 that was shared by the trio of Sandry Café (2005), Preston Hale (2010) and Darryl Kennedy (1991).
Nation's Longest Active Hit Streak: Adding to the extraordinary numbers put forth by outfielder
Donnie Dewees, he currently owns the nation's longest hit streak at 28 games. Earlier this season he put together a 16-game hit streak and is once again chasing Weeks who has the school mark of 31.
Last Time vs. Knights: North Florida is looking for its first midweek sweep of UCF since the 2008 season after a 9-3 result in favor of the Ospreys on April 21. The Knights, ranked No. 24 at the time, relinquished an early 3-0 lead while the Ospreys blew the game open with a six-run, sith inning.
Ryan Roberson tied a career-high with four hits in the contest. The Ospreys currently hold a 9-7 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1988.
About UCF: The Knights dropped out of the Top 25 after last month's 9-3 loss to the Ospreys. It marked the send of five-straight losses for UCF including three-straight at conference foe, East Carolina. The Knights have rebounded with American series wins over USF and Memphis. Still amongst the top power hitting teams in the country, the Knights have belted 57 home runs which is fifth most in the country. Dylan Moore has nine of the 57 long balls and is batting .33 3 on the year.
