Out of the Box

Mayor's Cup: In the Inaugural Mayor's Cup between North Florida and Jacksonville on Wednesday, the Ospreys emerged as 3-2 winners at John Session Stadium. The Ospreys scored a run in each of their first three turns at the plate to capture the cup. Donnie Dewees hit his fifth home run while Patrick Ervin and Keith Skinner each had RBI singles to pace the Osprey offense. On the mound, freshman Matt Vaka pitched a season-high 4.2 innings and did not surrender a run. Corbin Olmstead came on in the eighth and worked around an unearned run. He stranded the winning run on first in the ninth to record his second save of the season.

Program's Longest Win Streak: North Florida established a new, Division I, program record with its ninth-consecutive victory on Wednesday night. The win streak is the longest in the Smoke Laval era and best since an eight-game run by the Ospreys back in 2006. The overall school record of 21 in a row was set in 1988 in just their first season of competition.

No. 1 in the Nation: Redshirt sophomore Donnie Dewees leads the country with 31 runs scored, including 10 in a four-game series against Brown. He ranks second in the nation in triples with five and second in total bases with (44). His 38 hits led the Atlantic Sun and are the fourth most of any Division I college baseball player.

Mark on National Map: Going into this weekend, the Ospreys find themselves ranked in the top 10 as team in three different categories. They rank third in the country in hits (249), fifth in runs (174) and ninth in fielding percentage (.982).

Triple Time: Junior Nick Karmeris just missed hitting one out of the ballpark last night against Jacksonville and instead was able to leg out his first career triple. As a team, the Ospreys are tied with Stetson for the Atlantic Sun lead in triples this season with eight.

First Meeting: Bradley is the last of five, first-time opponents for the Ospreys in 2015. In the six games against first time opponents this year, VMI, Nicholls St., Southern Miss, and St. Louis, the Ospreys are 3-3.

D-Fence: This weekend's matchup will feature two of the country's top defenses. Bradley currently sports a .985 fielding percentage which is the second highest in the country. The Braves have 12 games this season in which they haven't committed an error and are 10-2 in those games. On the other hand, the Ospreys lead the Atlantic Sun and have the country's ninth best fielding percentage (.982). North Florida is 5-4 in games in which they do not commit an error.

Scouting Bradley: Winners of nine of their last 10 games, the Braves come in red-hot despite not playing a single game at home in 2015. Bradley took two out of three against former A-Sun cohort, Mercer last weekend and combined to score 22 runs in wins over Mt. Vernon Nazarene and UMASS-Darmouth in the midweek. Outfielder Issac Smith comes into the weekend with a .426 batting average and leads the team with three home runs and 14 RBIs. Right-hander Elliot Ashbeck leads the Braves pitching staff with a 5-0 record and a 1.99 ERA. He has tossed 31.2 innings and allowed only seven earned runs.
