Game Notes (pdf)JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida basketball squad opens up the second half of their Atlantic Sun Conference ledger on Friday night with the River City Rumble rematch against crosstown rival Jacksonville in UNF Arena at 7 p.m.
The Ospreys (14-10, 6-1) are currently tied atop the conference standings after posting the best league start in program history. UNF won its first six A-Sun games before dropping a hard fought 79-74 decision to USC Upstate last Saturday night. In the first meeting between the pair this season, North Florida used a 51-point second half explosion to post a decisive 86-63 win over Jacksonville (7-17, 1-6 ASun) on Jan. 10 at Veterans Memorial Arena.
Against JU, sophomore Dallas Moore led the way for the Ospreys finishing with 20 points while juniors Beau Beech and Demarcus Daniels chipped in 17 and 16, respectively. Jalen Nesbitt added 11 points including a 9-9 performance at the FT line and Chris Davenport nearly had a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. JR Holder posted 17 points and 10 boards to pace the Dolphin attack.UNF features five players averaging double digit points in conference play led by Beech with 17.7 per game. Moore averages 15.1 followed by Nesbitt (12.3), Davenport (11.2) and Trent Mackey (10.3). Daniels is at 9.3 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 7.1 per contest.
The Dolphins enter Friday's tilt having lost their last five games including a 51-50 decision to Kennesaw State last Saturday. JU is just 1-11 on the road this season with a 79-56 decision at Florida A&M marking their only victory.
As part of the Atlantic Sun's ESPN3 on Campus initiative, Friday's game will be part of the league's weekly package. Local television sports director and radio personality, Brent Martineau, will handle the play-by-play duties while former UNF assistant coach Lee Moon, Jr., will provide color analysis.
