TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 72 University of North Florida men's tennis split its matches during Day One of the Seminole Invitational on Saturday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Ospreys swept past No. 66 Louisiana-Lafayette in their first match, but fell 4-0 to Denver in the second match.

"All-in-all, we had a solid day against two very good teams," said head coach Mark Finnegan. "We get to play St. John's tomorrow, so it should be another great test."

UNF concludes play on Sunday against No. 71 St. John's at 10 a.m.

No. 72 UNF 4, No. 66 Louisiana-Lafayette 0
The Ospreys won the doubles point and then quickly captured three singles matches in order to shutout Louisiana-Lafayette in the day's first match.

"It was great to get a ranked-win this early in the season," said Finnegan. "The guys put forward a great performance."

In doubles, UNF took wins on No. 2 and No. 3 courts to take a 1-0 lead in the match. At No. 3 doubles, Lasse Muscheites and Zach Goldberg powered past Coleman Wahlberg and Rok Sitar 6-2. Caio Gomes and Yannick Zuern clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Jarred Wynan and Jake Wynan on the No. 2 court.

UNF picked up wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Zuern put the Ospreys up 2-0 after a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Damian Farinola on the No. 4 court. No. 72 Jack Findel-Hawkins down Vlad Kramarov 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, giving the Ospreys the three-point advantage in the match. Muscheites' 6-1, 7-6 (3) win against Will Huyton in the No. 5 spot clinched the match for UNF.

In the day's final match, UNF saw Denver capture the doubles points and then took three close singles matches.

"Obviously, losing tonight was disappointing, but we lost to a very well-coached Denver team that is bound to have a great season," said Finnegan.

Caio Gomes and Yannick Zuern dropped a 6-2 No. 2 doubles match to Yannik James and Diogo Rocha. Denver then won the doubles points on the No. 1 court as No. 28 Findel-Hawkins and Norbert Nemcsek dropped a 6-3 match to No. 33 Henry Craig and Alex Gasson.

Wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles sealed the match for Denver. Nemcsek fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to David Fox. Muscheites dropped a close 6-4, 6-4 to James at No. 5 singles, allowing Denver to hold a 3-0 lead in the match. The Pioneers won the match Rocha's 6-3, 6-4 victory over Zuern at No. 3 singles.
