GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- With four runners among the Top 20 finishers, the North Florida men's cross country team continued its strong 2014 season earning a third-place showing at the 26th annual Mt. Dew Invitational at Florida's Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Sophomore Michael Damato led the way for Ospreys finishing sixth in a personal record time of 24:59.23 while freshmen Tyler Bennett was seventh in a personal best time of 25:02.51. Fellow freshman Nick Morken also bettered his 8k mark finishing 11th at 25:10.79.
"The guys really ran well and showed that we have a strong team," said UNF head coach Jeff Pigg. "Our newcomers have really provided us with a boost and depth in our lineup. The twins (Justin and Jeremy Bryan) battled some illness throughout the week but were able to both provide solid performances. We are working hard in training and are excited about where we are right now as a group."
Brad Hort, a sophomore transfer from Georgia, posted his best finish of the season at 25:22.28 to finish 15th while Justin Bryan was 22nd in a personal best of 25:34.56. Jeremy Bryan also posted a personal record time of 25:44.19 to finish 26th, and sophomore Jacob Fuller rounded out the list of UNF scoring runners with a 34th-place finish of 26:13.35,
Georgia Tech captured the team title with a score of 41 with Florida finishing second at 51. North Florida was third with 60 points followed by Florida Gulf Coast (137), Kennesaw State (150), South Florida (172), FIU (216), Troy (229), FAU (252), Stetson (252), Jacksonville (297) and Florida A&M (332).
The Ospreys will have two weeks off before returning to competition on Oct. 4 at the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
