JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Bolstered by the program's first team round under par, the North Florida women's golf team ended the in eighth place after day one play of the Web.com Intercollegiate at Marsh Landing Country Club.
The Ospreys, who recorded a 36-hole total of 587, fired a 2-under par 286 in Monday's afternoon session after carding an opening round 301. The second round performance bettered the program team single round record score by nine strokes.
Sophomores Emelie Alpe and Kelly Aylwin paced the record UNF performance by shooting matching career low scores of 1-under 71. The duo became the fourth and fifth different golfers in program history to post a round under-par.
A pair of Osprey freshmen also tallied solid afternoon scores as both Lauren Coe and Nathalie Nygren finished with rounds of even-par 72. The score marked a career best for Coe and was the second round of par or better for Nygren.
"The team came out and competed well today against some of the top programs in the country," said UNF head coach Joanne Steele. "Their confidence and composure on the golf course was evident throughout the day. The program record 2-under par round was an incredible team effort, and I am extremely proud of everyone of the team members and the effort they put forth today."
Alpe led the way for the Ospreys on day one finishing in a tie for 20th at 144 (73-71). Aylwin (77-71) and Coe (76-72) finished in a tie for 37th at 148, while Belinda George is tied for 59th at 152 (75-77). Nygren rounded out the UNF lineup in a tie for 71st at 154 (82-72).
No. 35-ranked Florida State leads the 19-team field after two rounds of play with a total of 8-under 568. East Carolina is second at 575 (-1) followed by Chattanooga (577), Minnesota (580), No. 17 UCF (580), No. 24 Ohio State (582), Maryland (585), UNF, No. 38 Louisville (589), Toledo (590), McNeese State (593), Missouri (594), Illinois (597), Jacksonville (600), FIU (601), Sam Houston State (603), Michigan (605), James Madison (614) and Cincinnati (614).

Play concludes in the Web.com Intercollegiate Tuesday with a final round of 18 holes slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. North Florida will be paired with UCF, Ohio State and Maryland starting on holes 5-7.
The event features free admission and is open to the public with live scoring available online at Golfstat.com.
