Strong Start Has #WGolf in 3rd at MSU Ocala Invitational

DUNNELLON, Fla. -- Bolstered by a pair of personal best rounds, the North Florida women's golf team is tied for third after one round of play in the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational at Juliette Falls Golf Resort.
On Sunday, sophomore Belinda George fired a career low even-par 72 to lead the Ospreys. Fellow sophomore Mary Rodgers added a season best 75 in helping UNF to an opening round 299 tie with Houston Baptist.
George's performance put her in a tie for third while Rodgers joined her teammate among the Top 20 individuals in a tie for 15th.
The freshmen duo of Lauren Coe and Nathalie Nygren carded matching rounds of 76 to end the day tied for 26th while sophomore Emelie Alpe rounded out the UNF lineup with a 78 (T-44th).
Dayton State shot a 295 to grab the lead in the team competition with Florida Gulf Coast, one shot in front of UNF in second, at 298. Eastern Kentucky is currently fifth at 301 followed by Toledo (303), Stetson (305), Murray State (305), McNeese State (306), Ohio (306), Akron (308), Morehead State (310), Western Kentucky (313), Northern Illinois (314), Austin Peay (318) and Nebraska-Omaha (342).
The Daytona State duo of Tiffany Chan and So Young Hwang lead the individual medalist competition after rounds of 67 and 71, respectively.
The MSU Ocala Spring Invitational is a 54-hole, three-day event and continues with second round action Monday. North Florida will be paired with Daytona State and FGCU on day two beginning at 9:39 on Hole No. 1.
