NEW ORLEANS, La.—The University of North Florida men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Tulane on Sunday afternoon at the City Park Pepsi Center in New Orleans, La.

"This trip was a great learning experience for the guys to know what it takes to compete against some of the best schools in the nation," said head coach Mark Finnegan. Â "We are now done with one of the toughest stretches in our season. Â After playing the last eight matches away, we are excited to come home and defend the nest next weekend."

The Ospreys stumbled early as Tulane got out to a 1-0 lead. Norbert Nemcsek and Jack Findel-Hawkins fell in No. 1 doubles to Dominik Koepfer and Jao Chi-Shan, 6-4. The Green Wave then clinched the doubles point with a 6-5 (7-1) Sebastian Rey and Alex Van Cott victory over Caio Gomes and Yannick Zuern at the No. 3 position.

In singles, Nemcsek and Findel-Hawkins collected the Osprey's two wins. Nemcsek earned a 6-5 (7-3), 6-5 (7-5) victory over Rey at No. 2. In the No. 3 position, Findel-Hawkins posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Takuma Ohashi.

Gomes went three sets in his match against Koepfer in the top spot before falling. Gomes took the first set 6-5(7-5), but dropped a 1-6 decision in set two forcing a super tiebreak in place of a third-set. Gomes was defeated 10-3 in the super tiebreaker.

Tulane would claim straight set wins in positions four-six for the final margin of victory.

The Ospreys open the home portion of their schedule with a doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the UNF Tennis Complex against Georgia Southern and Bethune-Cookman at Noon and 5 p.m., respectively.
