FORT MYERS, Fla. – The North Florida women's swim team will head south for meets with Coastal Collegiate Swim Association foe, Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday and a non-conference tilt against Florida International on Wednesday. The Ospreys are back in the pool competing for the first time since Nov. 8.
"We're looking forward to the next two days," said first-year Head Coach
Ian Coffey. "FGCU is one of the top teams in our conference and FIU has a very good program. We are looking forward to some really good competition."
Florida Gulf Coast finished second out of 12 schools in last year's CCSA Championships and have recorded a pair of dual meet victories so far this season. FIU comes into Wednesday's meet unblemished in dual meet action with a 4-0 record. They also placed second in the competitive Mizzou Invite in late November.
In addition to the two scheduled dual meets, Coach Coffey brought the Ospreys to Fort Myers on Friday for a mini training trip.
"Our extra training in Fort Myers has a two-fold approach," explained Coffey. "First, we can get some really good training in a different environment and focus on our training. Lastly, it's a good team bonding trip. It's been a transition semester for the program and this caps off the first semester on a positive note and gets us ready for the championships."
FGCU has emerged victorious in the previous five meetings against the Ospreys. Wednesday will mark the first meeting between UNF and FIU since 2012 when the Panthers captured a 154-88 victory.
Going into Tuesday and Wednesday's meets, the Ospreys have four swimmers listed in the league's Top 24 Times list.
Amy Taylor appears in the top 24 in five different events and has the league's third fastest 1000 free time of 10.25.22.
Lissa Janowicz owns the 16
th fastest 200 fly time of 2:09.93 set back at the All-Florida Invitational in early October.
Natalie McCallum and
Angel Morrison also appear on the league's top 24 list so far this season.
"Swimming meets on back to back days is tough, but many will swim events they usually do not get to swim at meets, so we can mix it up," added Coffey. "It will also prepare us for the conference championship meet when we swim four days in a row."
