Day 1 Results

VERO BEACH, Fla. -- No. 34-ranked North Florida seized the top spot on the leaderboard of the Quail Valley Intercollegiate following back-to-back rounds of under-par play on Monday at Quail Valley Golf Club.

The Ospreys finished the day at 12-under 564 after carding rounds of 278 (-10) and 286 (-2). Joey Petronio continued his strong play this fall grabbing a share of the individual medalist lead with a 36-hole total of 7-under 137. The UNF senior opened the day with an even-par 72 then blistered the afternoon session with a career low 65 (-7).

"We had some good and some bad today," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "We finished well and are in a nice spot heading into the final round. We do expect to play better as a group than we did today. We need to be ready for tomorrow because the scores will likely be pretty good."

Redshirt freshman Dillon Woods joins Petronio in the Top 10 after posting his first career round under par 68 (-4) in the morning followed by an even-par 72 in round two for a total of 140. Woods is currently tied for eighth.

After getting to 6-under through the first nine holes of play in the morning, senior MJ Maguire finished round one with a 68 (-4) and then shot a 77 to finish tied for 33rd at 145. Juniors Taylor Hancock (75-72=147) and Austin Padova (70-77=147) ended the day tied for 42nd to complete the Osprey lineup.

North Florida owns a two shot advantage in the team competition with tournament host McNeese State in second at 566. No. 30 TCU and Jacksonville are tied for third at 567 with No. 83 Tennessee rounding out the top five.

Petronio shares the medalist leaad with JU's Colinn Monagle and Kentucky's Tyler McDaniel.

Tournament action at Quail Valley concludes with a final round Tuesday. North Florida, paired alongside TCU and McNeese State, begins play at 8:40 a.m. from Hole No. 1.
