JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Playing for their fourth consecutive day, the North Florida women's golf team posted their two best rounds of the fall season Monday in opening day play of the JU Classic at Marsh Landing Country Club.
The Ospreys opened the day with a round of 298 and then bettered it by a shot with a 297 in the afternoon for a 36-hole total of 595. UNF finished the day in third place, just two strokes behind second-place Daytona State.
A trio of UNF linksters concluded Monday's play in a tie for 11th with a score of 148. Sophomore Nathalie Nygren posted rounds of 76-72, while junior Emelie Alpe carded rounds of 72-76. Junior newcomer Mary Dawson carded her best two rounds as an Osprey finishing 75-73.
Juniors Kelly Aylwin (75-76=151) and Belinda George (81-81=162) rounded out the UNF lineup finishing second round play tied for 26th and 68th, respectively.
Additionally, North Florida had a pair of players competing in the event as individuals led by sophomore transfer Megan Wilshire, who finished the day tied for 15th at 149 (78-71). Her second round 1-under par performance marked just the seventh sub-par round in program history. Freshman Meghan Bennett shot rounds of 72-81 to finish tied for 32nd at 153.
Coastal Carolina tops the team leaderboard at 584 followed by Daytona State at 593 and UNF. Charleston Southern and Boston University finished at 599 to round out the Top 5 teams. CCU's Marissa Hinchman heads the individual medalist ranking at 4-under par 140.
Tournament action concludes with a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday, teeing off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. North Florida will be paired with Coastal and Daytona State on the final day.
