MACON, Ga. -- North Florida senior golfer Joey Petronio was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Golfer of the Week following a career-best performance at the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell.
Petronio carded a personal best 54-hole total of 11-under par 205 (71-68-66), highlighted by a career best matching final round score of 6-under par 66. The tournament total bettered his career record by three shots and the event marked the first time in his career with three consecutive rounds under par. It was the second individual medalist honor for the Orlando, Fla., native, who also won the 2012 Gary Koch Invitational.
At Shoal Creek, Petronio carded par or better on 51 of 54 holes and finished with 15 birdies including seven in his record-setting final round.Â
His performance also led the Ospreys to the team championship at the event, rallying from a six-shot deficit to defeat two-time defending national champion Alabama by three shots.
Petronio and North Florida next compete at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 19-21 in Orlando, Fla.
