TAMPA, Fla. – The University of North Florida dropped a heartbreaking loss Sunday night against University of South Florida at Corbett Stadium. Sharla Passariello's goal early in the ninth minute was the difference in the 1-0 decision for the Bulls. This match concludes the Ospreys opening six-match road trip with a 1-4-1 record as they return home to host the North Florida Invitational.
Â
"I am really proud of how our team competed today," head coach Linda Hamilton said. "Our team really came together and played great soccer as a team. We competed throughout and never gave up."
Â
Despite the Bulls outshooting the Ospreys 9-2 in the first half, the Ospreys continued to battle as both teams recorded six shots in the second half. In the ninth minute of play, Passariello scored on a pass from Sarah Miller to give the Bulls the lead which they would not relinquish.Â
Â
Offensively for the Ospreys, eight different players recorded a shot, including two shots on goal from sophomore Lanie Keating and freshman Kayla Aritt. UNF led the night in corner kicks with five, while USF only had two.Â
Â
Senior keeper Megan Dorsey returned to the goal for the Ospreys after being sidelined for over a year due to injury. In her return, Dorsey tallied five saves on the night, while her counterpart Christiane Endler had two.
Â
"Having these tough early-season road matches allows us to grow and get better for conference play," Hamilton added. "We've been on the road for a while now, so we're excited to come back home and play some home matches."
Â
North Florida returns to action on Friday afternoon at 7:00 p.m. as they take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the Ospreys' home opener in the North Florida Invitational at Patton Park.
