JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's soccer team scored 10 goals from eight different players to earn the 10-1 victory over the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff Friday night at Patton Park. Freshmen Kayla Aritt, Alexis Bredeau and Kendall Pollack each scored their first collegiate goal in the home opener.
Â
"I was very proud of our team tonight," head coach Linda Hamilton said. "Glad we were able to break the offensive struggles that we've had in this season so far."
Â
North Florida was first to get up on the board in the 10th minute when senior Keara Murphy found fellow senior Heather Botelho who put the ball in the upper left corner of the goal. UAPB was able to answer with a goal of its own as Kayla Reynolds took the ball from 30 yards out and dribbled her way to the goal in the 34th minute. Less than a minute after the Golden Lion's goal, the freshman forward Kayla Aritt scored off a cross from Jill Holdsworth.
Â
The Ospreys' offense exploded in the second half, scoring eight unanswered goals. Senior forward Thea Linkfield got things started as she scored her first goal of the match in the 51st minute. Linkfield was able to find the back of the net once again in the 64th minute.
Â
Bredeau added two goals of her own scoring in the 53rd and 74th minute. Senior forward Lauren Hopfensperger scored her first goal of the season in the 68th minute. Pollock added another goal off a long cross from Murphy. After rebounding her own shot, junior midfielder Alex Herman sent her next ball to the upper left corner of the goal. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Carmean capped the scoring in the 89th minute.
Â
North Florida controlled the time of possession throughout the match. The Ospreys were able to get 48 shots off by 14 different players along with 13 corner kicks.Â
Â
Defensively, the Osprey didn't allow a corner kick and only had two shots on goal. Senior keeper Megan Dorsey earned the victory for the Ospreys. Alyssa Cobbs recorded 19 saves for the Golden Lions.
Â
"Give credit to the UAPB, they played a good match," said Hamilton. "Fortunately for us, we were able to get our offensive game going and we look to use this momentum into our upcoming matches."
Â
North Florida concludes play in the North Florida Invitational as they take on Columbia on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Patton Park.Â
