#MSOC Drops Heartbreaker to Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team had its unbeaten streak snapped with a 3-2 loss on the road against Florida Atlantic on Sunday afternoon at FAU Soccer Stadium. The Ospreys (4-1-1) led 2-1 late before a penalty kick in the 87th minute knotted the score at 2-2. In overtime, the Owls (5-0-1) used a second PK to earn the victory.

Leading 2-1 late in regulation, North Florida was whistled for a foul in the box allowing Florida Atlantic's Deniz Bozkurt to tie the match with a penalty kick in the 87th minute. In extra time, the Ospreys were once again penalized for a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick by Ryan Price that proved to be the match-winner.

In the match, North Florida was responsible for the first three goals of the match. FAU was the first on the scoreboard as UNF was charged with an own goal, putting the home team ahead 1-0 in the ninth minute. The Ospreys' Jean Rivaroli scored the next two goals of the match to put North Florida in front 2-1 before the two penalty kicks won the match for the Owls.

The Ospreys finished the match with 13 shots compared to eight by the Owls. UNF had a 6-to-4 advantage on shots on goal. Rivaroli led the charge with two goals on four shots, including three shots on goal. Alex Morrell was credited with an assist in the match. Sean Young also posted four shots with two shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Brad Sienkiewicz took the hard-luck loss. The keeper surrendered three goals – an own goal and two PKs – on the afternoon while registering one save. Sienkiewicz was helped by his defense that limited the Owls offense to just six shots and two shots on goal, excluding the penalty kicks.

Florida Atlantic was the first team on the scoreboard as North Florida scored an own goal in the ninth minute to put the hosts in front 1-0.

In the 30th minute, Rivaroli took a free kick that was deflected by an FAU defender. The sophomore was able to put the ball in the back of the net for his first goal of the day. The goal was also Rivaroli's first of the season and the third of his career.

Neither team was able to score again in the opening stanza and the two teams entered intermission knotted at 1-1.

Rivaroli struck again in the 57th minute. The sophomore took a cross from Morrell in front of the goal and Rivaroli put it in the lower left corner of the net to give the Ospreys a 2-1 advantage.

With time winding down, the Owls benefited from a miscue by the Ospreys. FAU's Bozkurt was fouled in the box in the 87th minute. He converted the PK to tie the match just before the end of regulation.
