DeLAND, Fla. – For the first time in the program's Division I years, University of North Florida softball reached 40 wins, improving to 40-13 overall and 18-6 in the Atlantic Sun with a 1-0 victory at Stetson on Wednesday evening at Patricia Wilson Field.
UNF's last 40-win season came in 2004. The Ospreys finished that season with a 46-13 mark.
On Wednesday, the game's only run came in the top of the second. A sacrifice fly to left field by Lauren Pollack brought home Jackie Reese and the Ospreys went up 1-0.
Kaylie Wallace got her Atlantic Sun-leading 22nd win of the year with her seventh complete-game shutout of the season. In 7.0 innings, Wallace allowed six hits and struck out four.
Meredith Owen received the loss after pitching all 7.0 innings. Owen, who entered the game tied with Wallace with 21 wins, allowed one run off four hits and struck out five batters.
Four different Ospreys each registered one hit, while Demi Meza and Owen were both 2-for-3 from the plate for the Hatters.
