TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-1 decision on the road on Friday afternoon, falling to 26th-ranked Florida State in its first loss in nine matches.
Although seniors Julien Belair and Moritz Buerchner led their match at No. 1 doubles for much of the contest, the Seminoles earned wins on the other two courts and began the day by taking the doubles point. It was the first doubles point that the Ospreys have lost in 10 matches.
Belair attempted to right the ship in his contest at No. 3 singles, as he downed Jordan Kelly-Houston in dominant fashion, 6-0, 6-1. The victory is Belair's ninth consecutive win, the longest streak on the team by seven matches and the tied for the longest Division I streak on record at UNF.
However, FSU put the match out of reach with a flurry of victories at No. 4, 5 and 6 that made the score 4-1. Buerchner and senior Daniel Sotomarino were both up a set in singles matches at No. 1 and 2, respectively, when the match was abandoned.
With the loss, the Ospreys fall to 10-7 on the year, while FSU moves to 15-6 with the victory.
UNF will be back on the courts on Saturday for a 2 p.m. home match against conference foe Stetson. All UNF home tennis matches are free to the public, or follow along on Twitter at @OspreyMTEN.
