BRASELTON, Ga. -- The No. 17 North Florida men's golf team remained atop the leaderboard Monday following a tough second round of play in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship held at the Legends Course of Chateau Elan Resort.
The Ospreys, who carded a second day 301, saw their lead trimmed to one stroke heading into Tuesday's final round. UNF leads the team competition with a tournament total of 590.
Sophomore MJ Maguire played the back-nine in one-under to finish the day with a team-leading even par 72 and is currently tied for third in medalist play at 147. Senior Kevin Phelan is in second place at 146 following a second round 75.
Phelan and Maguire are joined in the individual Top 10 by sophomore Joey Petronio (T-6th/148) and senior Sean Dale (T-8th/149). Freshman Austin Padova rounds out the Osprey lineup in a tie for 37th at 161.
"We played pretty poorly as a team today," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "However, we are still in the lead and we can't lose sight of that. We just need to get refocused and get off to a good start tomorrow and then finish strong. It should be an exciting day tomorrow."
Kennesaw State used a day two 293 to pull within a shot of UNF in the team standings at 591. ETSU is in third at 603 followed by Jacksonville (613), Northern Kentucky (618), Mercer (620), Florida Gulf Coast (624), Lipscomb (624), USC Upstate (626) and Stetson (630).
KSU's Austin Vick leads the medalist competition as the only player in field under par with a 36-hole total of 143 (-1).
The Atlantic Sun Championship concludes with a final round of 18 holes Tuesday on the par 72, 6,975-yard layout at Chateau Elan. North Florida begins play off tee No. 1 at 8:50 a.m. and will be paired with Kennesaw State and ETSU.
