
Women's Golf Opens Play at JMU/Eagle Landing Invite

JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida women's golf team finished opening round play Friday at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational with a score of 312.
The Ospreys, who are playing in their second tournament of the week, end the first day ranked 14th of the 17 team field.
Freshman Emelie Alpe was the squad's top performer on day one carding a three-over 75 (T-21st).
Fellow freshman Mary Rodgers is tied for 60th following an opening 78 while junior Kelly Miller shot a 79 (T-73rd). Another pair of freshman rounded out the Osprey lineup as Kelly Aylwin posted an 80 (T-77th) and Tess Huber finished with an 81 (T-81st).
Two other UNF freshmen had solid days competing as individuals. Victoria Pitenis is tied for 34th after a round of 76 (+4) and Belinda George carded a personal best 77 (T-47th).
Campbell and Elon share the top spot on the team leaderboard after opening rounds of 293. Old Dominion is third at 296 followed by tournament host JMU (297), Kennesaw State (300), Mississippi State (300), Georgia State (301), Chattanooga (302), Stetson (302), East Carolina (302), ETSU (304), Samford (305), Jacksonville (308), UNF, UNC Wilmington (313), Morehead State (314) and Western Carolina (317).
Mississippi State's Ally McDonald and ECU's Gustafsson Spang are tied for the medalist lead after carding three-under rounds of 69.
Tournament action continues with second round play Saturday at Eagle Landing Golf Course. North Florida starts play at 8:40 a.m. and will be paired with JU and UNCW.
The event features free admission and is open to the public. Fans can also follow the action via live scoring at Golfstat.com.
