
Softball Opens A-Sun Schedule at USC Upstate This Weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – University of North Florida softball begins the Atlantic Sun Conference season with a three-game series at USC Upstate this weekend. The Ospreys and Spartans play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday at Cyrill Stadium.
UNF returns to the road for the first time in two weeks after going 7-1 during an eight-game homestand. The only blemish during UNF's homestand came on Tuesday night when the Ospreys fell 7-4 to Florida A&M at the UNF Softball Complex.
Mariah Reynolds enters the weekend hitting a team-best .375 (21-for-56).Meanwhile, all three of UNF's pitchers have posted impressive ERAs one month into the season. Kaylie Wallace has a 0.92 ERA, while Cortney Radke and Kayla Goff have recorded 1.29 and 1.52 ERAs, respectively.
The Ospreys are 7-7 all-time in their first Atlantic Sun series. However, all previous Atlantic Sun series were doubleheaders. This year, a new format takes place with all conference series being three games.
After having its trip to NC State and North Carolina cancelled due to inclement weather, USC Upstate posted a doubleheader sweep at Gardner-Webb on Thursday. The Spartans won the first game 10-3 and took the second 2-1 in six innings after the game was called due to darkness.
USC Upstate enters Saturday with the conference's top overall record at 14-1. The Spartans have also played tough at home, owning a 12-1 record at Cyrill Stadium this season. Ericka Harris is hitting a team-best .500 with 24 hits and seven doubles. In the circle, Jamie Ujvari and Hannah Alexander are registering 1.04 and 1.72 ERAs, respectively.
UNF holds an all-time 16-14 advantage with USC Upstate in a series that dates back to both schools' Division II years. However, USC Upstate has won 10 of the last 11 games. Last year, the Spartans had a 6-1 win in 10 innings and a 7-5 win in eight to sweep the series.
