
Golf Tied for 2nd at Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida men's golf team opened its spring schedule with a strong day one performance at the SunTrust Gator Invitational sitting in a tie for second after 36 holes of play.
The Ospreys carded rounds of 287-283 to finish the day tied for tournament host Florida at 570. Senior Sean Dale (69-71) and sophomore MJ Maguire (71-69) led the way for UNF after both posted two-round totals of 140 to rank tied for third in medalist competition.
Senior Kevin Phelan also collected a round-under-par finishing the day tied for 12th at 142 including a second round one-under 69. Sophomore Joey Petronio is tied for 50th at 148 (74-74) and freshman Joe Stepnes rounds out the UNF lineup in 74th at 158 (78-80). Redshirt freshman Taylor Hancock, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 32nd at 145 (74-71).
Florida State leads the team competition with a score of 561, nine strokes ahead of the Ospreys and Gators. Liberty is fourth at 572 followed by UAB (573), South Alabama (575), Arkansas (575), Georgia Southern (577), Memphis (578), Mississippi State (580), UCF (580), Jacksonville (581), Kennesaw State (588) and Lamar (590).
Final round action at the Gator Invitational is scheduled for Sunday at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
