JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's tennis team welcomes a trio of non-conference opponents to Jacksonville this weekend, as it plays host to South Carolina State, UCF and South Alabama on three consecutive days.
The Ospreys enter the weekend with a 3-2 record, a week after a pair of tightly-fought matches, including a 4-3 win over Houston and a 4-3 loss to Barry.
South Carolina State, who UNF faces at 11 a.m. on Friday, has started their season with a 2-1 record. The Bulldogs also won their only road match thus far, a 7-0 victory at Norfolk State.
Saturday represents a sterner test for the Ospreys, as they welcome UCF to the UNF Tennis Complex for a 12 p.m. match. The Knights sit at 5-3 entering the weekend, though they will face fellow Atlantic Sun member Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday afternoon.
UCF is 1-3 away from home in 2013, dropping matches at Florida, Florida State and Georgia State.
South Alabama (Sunday, 11 a.m.) comes to Jacksonville with a 4-1 record, having just dropped a tough 4-1 decision to No. 56 North Texas last Sunday. UNF will serve as the Jaguars' first true road test of the year, as all five of their matches have been at home.
USA will also be playing a neutral-site match against South Carolina State on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.
The Ospreys will look to senior Lorena Aviles this weekend, as she enters the trio of matches with a 4-1 record at the No. 1 singles position and a 13-4 overall record for the 2012-13 season. Aviles has also paired with senior Melanie Aguirre to produce a 3-1 record at No. 1 doubles, the best doubles record on the team.
Admission to all matches is free, while periodic updates will be available on Twitter at @OspreyWTEN.
