JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida volleyball plays its final two home matches of the season at UNF Arena during an important Atlantic Sun weekend. The Ospreys host Kennesaw State on Friday night at 7 p.m., and then Mercer on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Â
"This should be an exciting weekend," said head coach Steve Loeswick. "Our team has had a good week of practice and is looking forward to the challenges Kennesaw State and Mercer bring. These are our last home matches of the year and we are hoping to send our seniors [Anna Budinska and Britt Claessens] off in style."
Â
The Ospreys will celebrate the careers of Budinska and Claessens with Senior Night happening on Friday. Budinska has been a key figure in UNF's offense throughout the last four years. She enters Friday night with 888 kills and has led the Ospreys in kill throughout the 2013 season. Claessens will end her career as the most prolific setter in UNF's Division I history. Claessens enters Friday with 2,732 career assists, which is the most for any Osprey Division I setter and fourth most in the program's overall history.
Â
This weekend's two matches will have a significant impact in UNF's spot in the Atlantic Sun standings and postseason prospects. UNF enters the weekend with a 5-9 A-Sun record and tied for seventh. The Ospreys are currently one win back from Kennesaw State, who is 6-9 in the conference and currently sixth. Only the top six teams advance to the Atlantic Sun Tournament that is Nov. 21-23.
Â
UNF comes off a critical five-set victory over Stetson on Tuesday night. After trailing 2-1 in the match, UNF came back to win the fourth and fifth sets in dramatic fashion. The Ospreys have now won their last two home matches.
Â
Kennesaw State plays its final two road matches this weekend with a trip to the River City. Following Friday's match, the Owls visit Jacksonville on Saturday. Kennesaw State split last weekend's series, falling 3-0 to Lipscomb last Friday and rebounding with a 3-1 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday. Kelly Marcinek, who earned A-Sun Player of the Week honors on Monday, leads the Owls with 3.82 kills per set and a .230 hitting percentage. Camille Pedraza averages 3.85 digs per set.
