DAYTONA, Fla. -- The North Florida women's golf team fired a season best 305 in opening round action Saturday at the LPGA Xavier Invitational.
The Ospreys ended day one tied for fourth with fellow Atlantic Sun Conference rival Mercer. Sophomore Tess Huber paced the UNF performance carding a one-over par 73.
Huber is currently tied for second in the individual medalist competition, just one stroke behind Mercer's Lacey Fears.
Sophomore Kelly Aylwin and freshman Lauren Coe are both tied for 21st following rounds of 77 with sophomore Emelie Alpe (78) tied for 34th and Belinda George (82) tied 62nd rounding out the Osprey lineup.
Daytona State shot an opening round 300, leading Morehead State (302) by a couple of shots. Tournament host Xavier is in third at 304 followed by UNF and Mercer, Stetson (309), North Dakota State (312), McNeese State (313), Samford (315), Illinois State (315), South Dakota State (317), FGCU (321), Bethune-Cookman (326), Northern Kentucky (330), Creighton (332), South Dakota (332), Florida Atlantic (333) and North Dakota (356).
Tournament action continues Sunday at 8:30 a.m., on the par 72, 6,146-yard layout of the LPGA International.
