Complete Game Notes
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's soccer team will play its first Atlantic Sun Conference games this weekend as it travels north for matches at Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky, playing in their first season as an A-Sun team.
This past weekend, the Ospreys fell to UCF, ranked sixth in the country, 3-1 in Orlando. Junior forward Lauren Hopfensperger notched her first goal of 2012 in the contest.
Lipscomb (Fri. Sept. 21, 8 p.m.) will carry a 2-4-2 record into both teams' first Atlantic Sun match of the season. Though they had a match this past Monday cancelled due to weather, the Bisons have lost the last two times they have taken the field, falling 5-1 to Tennessee-Martin and 1-0 to Alabama State. Freshman Molly Bray has led Lipscomb on the offensive end, scoring three goals, while sophomore Baylee Linnell has scored twice.
UNF leads the all-time series against the Bisons, 4-2-1, having grabbed wins in the previous two contests. Last year, the Ospreys knocked off Lipscomb, 4-0, in their final regular season game.
Northern Kentucky (Sun. Sept. 23, Noon) enters its first-ever weekend of Atlantic Sun Conference play with a 3-5 record in 2012. This past weekend, NKU dropped a 2-0 decision at home to Oakland, before taking down Youngstown State on the road, 2-1. The Norse have spread the scoring around this season, as eight different players have scored, while four have notched multiple goals. Junior Megan Frye and freshman Maria Silbersack lead those with two goals, each having also tallied a pair of assists on the year. Sophomore Kelsey Laumann and freshman Martha Staab have also grabbed two goals.
The Ospreys have never faced the A-Sun newcomers in women's soccer.
