TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida track and field teams broke multiple school and personal records on the second day of the FSU Relays on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Brianna Frazier led the way for the women, clocking a time of 61.77 to break the school record in the 400m hurdles by over a second in just her first attempt in the event. It was the fastest time recorded in the Atlantic Sun this year by almost a full second as well.
Senior Ava Rivera also made her debut in an event, clocking a 2:33.85 in the 800m to finish 28th.
In the 100m, sophomore Raneisha Lamar (12.45), senior Keva Stephens (12.79) and junior Jennifer Smyth (12.99) took 21st, 27th and 29th, respectively. Smyth also earned a top-10 finish of her own, taking eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.43m (37-6).
On the men's side, sophomore David Shepherd shattered his own school record with a pole vault of 5.15m (16-10 3/4) to earn a runner-up finish. His mark is the highest in the Atlantic Sun this season and eclipses the next highest by another competitor by 1'5”.
The 4x400m relay team of freshmen Cecil Rolle, Taylor Sumagpang, Jake Menen and junior Aaron Tillman took tenth place with a time of 3:21.99. Sumagpang also took seventh in the 800m in 1:54.49.
“I think we put together a really good all-around meet,” Head Coach Mark VanAlstyne said. “Look at how many personal records and school records we had, I think we're right where we need to be as we head into the last couple weeks before the A-Sun Championships.”
Complete day two results, as well as results for all UNF competitors can be found on the attached PDFs.
The Ospreys are in action again next weekend as they return home for the Best Western/North Florida Invitational at Hodges Stadium on March 30-31.
