Ospreys Tied for 6th at Schenkel Golf Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. – The No. 15-ranked North Florida golf team fired an opening round two-under 286 Friday in the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club.
The Ospreys ended the day in a three-way tie for sixth along with Kentucky and UAB. Junior Kevin Phelan led the way for UNF in round one after carding a three-under 69 (T-9th).
Phelan was joined in the Top 20 by junior teammate Sean Dale, who fired a one-under 71 to finish the day tied for 18th.
Freshman Joey Petronio and senior Kevin Aylwin are both tied for 36th following one-over 73s while freshman MJ Maguire rounded out the UNF lineup with a two-over 74 (T-48th). Junior Pete Kellerman playing as an individual is also tied for 36th after posting 73.
No. 7 Alabama leads the 14-team field after posting a tournament record 268 (-20) in the opening round. No. 24 Florida and Ole Miss are tied for second at 280 followed by No. 2 Auburn (282), No. 26 Virginia (283), Kentucky/UNF/No. 29 UAB, Notre Dame (289), South Carolina (293), Georgia Southern (296), Minnesota (300), North Carolina State (301) and Vanderbilt (304).
Virginia's Ben Kohles shot a seven-under 65 to grab a one stroke lead over a quartet of players in the individual medalist competition.
Tournament action at the Schenkel continues Saturday with second round play when UNF pairs with UAB and Notre Dame.
