MIAMI, Fla. – University of North Florida women's basketball concludes its season-opening weekend on Sunday when the Ospreys take on Florida International at 6 p.m., at FIU's U.S. Century Bank Arena.
UNF will attempt to rebound from a 77-24 setback to No. 23 Miami on Friday night in what was the season-opener for both teams. The Ospreys were plagued with cold shooting throughout the evening and had to contend with a hot-shooting Miami team.
FIU begins the 2012-13 season against the Ospreys. The Panthers, who received votes in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, return 10 players and four starters from the team that earned an at-large bid to last year's Postseason WNIT. Among FIU's returns is Jerica Coley, who earned AP All-America honors and was the Sun Belt's Player of the Year last season. Coley finished 2011-12 ranked sixth nationally in scoring (23.4 ppg).
UNF and FIU have only met once prior to Sunday's game. FIU defeated UNF 86-46 on Nov. 24, 2006 at the FIU Thanksgiving Classic.
