Men’s Soccer Edged by Stetson in Final Road Match

DELAND, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision on the road to Stetson at the Stetson Soccer Complex in DeLand, Fla. in the final road match of the season. The Ospreys surrendered a late goal in the 63rd minute of the match that proved to be the match-winner.
Offensively, North Florida scored a pair of goals on nine shots, including five shots on goal. Alex Morrell and Camilo Garcia each netted goals in the match while Teddy Mulamba and Jean Rivaroli each added assists. Morrell led the team with three shots, including a pair of shots on goal. Garcia also notched multiple shots in the match. Garcia, Luis Daniel Camejo and Alejandro Jergovic each registered shots on goal on the night.
Defensively, Brad Sienkiewicz worked 90:00 minutes at goal for the Ospreys. The transfer recorded five saves on the night, while allowing three goals.
Stetson finished the match with 20 shots, including eight shots on goal. The Hatters finished the night with three goals and a pair of assists. Kai Eckenrode recorded a hat trick on the night. SU's goalie Andreas Schnabl allowed a pair of goals, but recorded three saves to earn the win.
The Hatters was the first team to scratch the scoreboard as Eckenrode stole the ball from an Osprey defender on the left of the box. He was able to score the goal to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at the 15-minute mark.
The Ospreys responded in the 19th minute as Rivaroli sent a cross from the right side over to Morrell who finished with the one-touch goal. The goal was Morrell's second of the season and knotted the score at 1-1.
North Florida took the lead in the 28th minute. Mulamba passed the ball from the left side to the top of the box where Garcia lifted the ball over the head of the keeper for the goal. Camilo's goal was the third of the season for the freshman and gave the Ospreys a 2-1 advantage.
Stetson responded in the 32nd minute. Eckenrode scored his second goal of the match off of a cross from Raffaele Centofanti to tie the match for the second time.
The two teams entered intermission tied at 2-2. In the first half, Stetson recorded seven shots, compared to four by the Ospreys. Both keepers allowed a pair of goals and recorded a save.
In the second half, the two teams remained scoreless for the first 17 minutes. Eckenrode's third goal of the night broke the tie and gave Stetson a 3-2 lead. He took a pass from Jonathan Mendoza and finished in the far post. The goal proved to be the match-winner as the Ospreys shot attempts were unable to break the goal line.
North Florida returns to action on Sunday afternoon as the Ospreys host Lipscomb in a match at Hodges Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
