MACON, Ga. – The four-game road swing continues for the University of North Florida women's basketball team on Saturday when the Ospreys travel to Mercer for a 2 p.m., game at the University Center.
UNF will look to build off its success on Thursday night when the Ospreys held off Kennesaw State 66-57 for their first road win of the season. Brittany Kirkland scored most of her team-best 13 points from the foul line, going 9-for-10. Jadhken Kerr grabbed a team-best six rebounds, while Larkira Jones came closer to becoming UNF's all-time leading blocker. Jones made two blocks against the Owls, bringing her career total to 103. The St. Petersburg, Fla.-native needs just three more to break Shennette Sheffield's mark of 105.
Mercer wraps up a three-game homestand on Saturday. The Bears will attempt to break a nine-game losing skid, which includes Thursday's 76-65 setback against Jacksonville. Mercer's last win came over a month ago when the Bears held off Troy 69-69 in overtime on Dec. 18. That was also the last time Mercer held an opponent to under 70 points. Briana Williams leads the Bears in scoring with 15.1 points per game.
UNF leads the very streaky series 8-5 and has won the last three meetings. After the two teams split the first two games of the series, UNF went on a four-game winning streak from Jan. 25, 2007-Feb. 23, 2008. Mercer then took the next four (Jan. 10, 2009-Feb. 18, 2010).
