JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team returns to its home court on Thursday night, welcoming East Tennessee State to UNF Arena at 7 p.m.
The Ospreys, who come off a 0-2 road trip, will look to get back to the .500 mark in the Atlantic Sun standings, entering Thursday with a 2-3 conference mark. However, UNF won its last home game and are 5-2 this season when playing at UNF Arena.
UNF leads the Atlantic Sun conference in rebounding margin with a +3.0 and is just one of three teams with a positive rebounding margin. ETSU is second with +1.9, while Kennesaw State (+1.5) is third in the conference. Larkira Jones leads the Ospreys in their rebounding efforts with 118 total boards (7.4 rpg). Just over half of Jones' rebounds this season have come in home games. The St. Petersburg, Fla.-native has 68 rebounds at UNF Arena. For her career, Jones enters Thursday night with 511 career boards, 243 of which have been in home games.
ETSU takes to the road for the first time in a month on Thursday. The Lady Bucs went 4-1 during a five-game homestand that started with a 68-57 win against Morehead State on Dec. 20 and ended with a 77-61 conference win over Kennesaw State on Monday. However, the road has not been friendly for the Lady Bucs this season, who are 0-6 in away games and 0-2 at neutral site contests. Natalie Pickwell leads the team with 10.5 points per game, but averages 14.0 points in conference games. Tosha Austin and Destiny Mitchell average 7.4 and 7.3 rebounds per game, respectively, and have combined for 220 boards.
ETSU leads the all-time series 10-2 and won the last meeting 74-52 in Johnson City, Tenn., on Feb. 12, 2011. However, UNF won the last game played at UNF Arena, using a pair of free throws in the final seven seconds to secure a 65-62 victory on Jan. 17, 2011.
