TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's and women's cross country teams each won on Friday evening at the FLRunners.com Invitational in Titusville, Fla. The men's team swept the top eight places in their race, while the women scored 26 points, defeating cross-town rival Jacksonville University by 12.
The women's team, still ranked sixth in the South Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, places six runners in the top 15 to cruise to their third victory in three meets. The Ospreys' 26 points was the by far the lowest of the seven teams in attendance.
Senior Erin Nixon (17:38.30) grabbed runner-up honors to lead UNF, while junior Meggie Emons (17:55.10) finished third. Freshman Elle Baker (18:15.00) took fifth place to give the Ospreys three of the top five runners. Junior Ecaterina Gheorghiu (18:22.00) took seventh and senior Kayla Conrad (18:43.90) finished ninth to complete UNF's scoring on the day.
The men's team ran in dominating fashion, grabbing the first eight spots and 11 of the top 15. Junior James Post grabbed his first career victory with a personal-best of 15:16.89. Senior Mike Strasser (15:45.16) took the runner-up spot and sophomore Chris Haynes (15:48.61) finished third, beating out seniors Cameron Dickerson (16:05.64) and Josh Brown (16:14.06), fourth and fifth, respectively.
Both teams will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 14, albeit in different places. The women's team will travel to Charlottesville, Va. to run in the Panorama Farms Invitational, while the men will run in the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
