
Women's Soccer Wraps Up Non-Conference Slate in North Carolina

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's soccer team travels to Wilmington, N.C. this weekend to play two matches in the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Invitational, hosted by UNC Wilmington. They will be the Ospreys' final two non-conference matches of the season.
This past week, UNF went 1-1 in two matches against North Carolina teams, beating Elon 3-2 in double-overtime Friday evening before dropping a 3-0 decision to NC State on Sunday afternoon.
Junior forward Michele Larrinaga scored the game-winner against Elon with just 56 seconds left on the clock to cap off the Ospreys' comeback. Elon had charged out to a 2-0 lead in just 12 minutes before UNF was able to right the ship. Against NC State, sophomore goalkeeper Megan Dorsey recorded five saves for the Ospreys but was unable to do much to stem the tide of the Wolfpack offense.
This weekend, UNF will travel to the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. to wrap up their 2011 non-conference schedule. UNC Wilmington, their first opponent, is 2-5 to start the season. Five different players have scored a goal for the Seahawks, who have not given up more than two goals in a game yet this season. UNC Wilmington won the only prior meeting between the teams, a 5-0 victory in Wilmington in 1998.
Fort their second match in Wilmington, the Ospreys will face off against the Richmond Spiders. Richmond has started their season 3-3-2, but is coming off consecutive home shutout victories against William & Mary (2-0) and Liberty (1-0). Sophomore forward Becca Wann leads the Spiders' offense, having tallied five goals and three assists over the first eight games. UNF has never played Richmond in women's soccer.
