JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida women's basketball team returns to the road on Saturday with a trip north to Morgantown, W. Va., for a Noon game at West Virginia at WVU Coliseum.
Saturday is UNF's first road game in nearly two-and-a-half weeks. The Ospreys played their last two games at UNF Arena and emerged victorious in both of those games. In its most recent game, UNF posted a 51-36 victory over crosstown rival Jacksonville to pick up its first Atlantic Sun win of the season. UNF led throughout the entire game and led by as many as 20 points at two different times. Senior Brittany Kirkland scored a game and season-best 16 points, marking the sixth time she's reached double figures this season. Dating back to last year, Kirkland has scored 10-or-more points in eight of UNF's last nine games.
West Virginia rides a three-game winning streak heading into Saturday's game. Led by four players in double-digits, the Mountaineers fended off Syracuse to take a 76-72 road win on Wednesday night. Asya Bussie and Ayana Dunning each scored a game-best 19 points, while Dunning added 15 rebounds for her first career double-double. Dunning averages a team-best 8.6 rebounds per contest, while Taylor Palmer paces the team in scoring with 17.3 points per game. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers' defense has limited their opponent's scoring average to less than 50 points per game. West Virginia entered the week ranked second nationally in scoring defense by the NCAA.
This will be the first meeting between UNF and West Virginia. It will also be the second time the Ospreys face a current BIG EAST team. The Ospreys played at USF on Nov. 15.
