Brittany Kirkland led the Ospreys (2-7) with 15 points, while Taylor Smith added in 13.
Kimberly Smith hit four three-pointers en route to scoring a game-best 16 points for the Owls (4-5).
UNF got off to a fast start with a 9-0 run in the game's first three minutes. The Ospreys held a 14-4 lead with 14:43 left in the half, but FAU used a 15-3 run to come back and take a 19-17 lead at the 9:06 mark. The two teams battled it out for the remainder of the half with two ties occurring and neither team building a significant lead. FAU carried a 28-27 lead into halftime.
A trey by Jadhken Kerr started the second half and put the Ospreys up 30-28, but FAU answered with a 10-0 run to take 38-30 lead at 14:00. UNF trimmed the Owls' advantage to four on two occasions, including at 40-36 when Taylor Smith made a pair of free throws at 10:32. However, FAU went on a 13-5 spurt to pushed its cushion to a 12-point, 53-41 lead. The Ospreys closed in on the Owls with Jasmine Hicks and Kirkland combining for three-straight baskets to make it 53-47, but that would be the closest UNF could get.
The Ospreys return to UNF Arena this weekend when they host the two-day Osprey Holiday Classic. The annual tournament begins on Saturday. FIU and Jacksonville State meet in the first game at 1:30 p.m., followed by UNF against Delaware State at 3 p.m.
